The basics
What Halia is, and what it is for.
What is Halia?+
Halia is private client intelligence for luxury retail. It reads the wealth signals already sitting in your customer data, grades every customer from A* to C, and surfaces the high-value clients hiding behind modest spend, then helps your team act on them in the tools you already use.
Who is it for?+
Luxury and premium retailers where a single, well-treated client is worth more than a thousand one-time buyers: fashion and apparel, beauty and fragrance, jewellery and watches, home and lifestyle. Anywhere relationships drive the business.
What problem does it actually solve?+
Most brands reward the spend they can already see. The problem is the spend they cannot: the client who has placed one modest order with you but is spending serious money elsewhere. Halia finds those people from the signals in your own data, so you can build the relationship before a competitor does.
How is this different from RFM or spend-based segmentation?+
RFM and spend tiers only know what a customer has done with you. They cannot see a future VIC on their first small order. Halia reads who a customer is and what they signal, so it can flag genuine wealth and intent long before spend reveals it. The two are complementary: spend tells you your known VIPs, Halia tells you your hidden ones.
Signals & data
The data model.
What signals does Halia read?+
Wealth, work, and address facts, across several families. Spend: how much and how often a customer has bought from you. Geography: ultra-prime postcodes, area property values from public price data, trophy residences, international wealth hubs. Delivery destinations: private-jet terminals, superyacht marinas, luxury hotels, members' clubs. Email and domain: wealth-employer and family-office domains, private equity and hedge fund keywords, elite alumni. Work and title: honorifics, post-nominals, company billing, celebrity stylists and personal shoppers. Behaviour and payment: assistant and PA orders, concierge delivery, premium card ranges. What Halia does not score on: a customer's nationality, ethnicity, name, or the origin of their name. Those origin signals are off by default.
Is this fair and lawful?+
Yes, and we built it to stay that way. Halia sorts by wealth facts, never by where a customer is from: nationality, ethnicity, name, and name-origin signals are off by default. A person at your brand always decides what happens, the only effect is more personal attention (we elevate, never withhold), and we keep no copy of your customers. For merchants we provide the paperwork to do this properly: a Data Processing Agreement, the profiling logic for your own privacy notice, and a DPIA and Legitimate Interests Assessment. See our
Responsible profiling page.
Where does the reference data come from, and how big is it?+
Halia maintains curated datasets assembled over years: roughly 1,500 reference points in all. That includes hundreds of prime addresses and HNW areas across the world's wealth capitals, every major private-jet terminal and superyacht marina, dozens of commercial buildings where high-net-worth individuals are known to concentrate, over a hundred wealth-employer and family-office domains, hundreds of celebrity stylists and personal shoppers, premium card ranges, and the naming tells of title. Each order is checked against all of it, in milliseconds. Every reference point is built from our own research and public, non-personal facts; none of it is ever derived from a customer's data.
Could my team not just do this manually?+
No. No associate could memorise the world's prime addresses, every private-jet terminal and marina, the buildings where wealth clusters, and the domains of every family office, then check each one against every order, in milliseconds, continuously, for the whole customer base. That is precisely the work Halia exists to do.
Do you buy personal data or use data brokers?+
No. Halia scores using your own customer data combined with our curated reference datasets of public, non-personal facts: addresses, domains, card ranges, naming conventions. It does not buy, append, or enrich with third-party personal data about your customers.
Why do some signals say "verify"?+
Names and addresses are shared. A whole-name match to a known stylist, or a rich-list name, is a useful lead but not proof, so Halia presents those as "verify" and lets them corroborate rather than assert. It is "flag and confirm", never "flag and assume".
Scoring & accuracy
How the score is built.
How does the score work?+
Each signal carries a weight. Halia combines the signals that fire into a single 0 to 100 score and an A* to C grade. Crucially, correlated signals are discounted, so three ways of saying "this client is in Monaco" count as one, and the weakest signals only contribute when stronger ones agree. The result is a score you can defend, line by line.
What exactly is a "hidden VIC"?+
A customer who spends below your VIP threshold today but shows genuine wealth and intent signals: the modest spender who could become one of your best clients with the right attention. You set the threshold in Settings.
What is "latent value"?+
An estimate of what a client could be worth if nurtured toward your best clients. It grows from their current spend toward your own ceiling, scaled by their score. You provide the inputs in Settings: your average order value, the most orders a single client has placed, and your highest lifetime client. Until you do, it uses a store-AOV fallback.
Is the score ever wrong?+
No scoring system is infallible. Halia is guidance for your team, and a person at your brand always makes the call. Because signals can collide, weak ones are held back unless corroborated. Treat the multi-signal and A*/A clients as your trustworthy shortlist, and a single weak signal as a hint to verify.
Can I tune the scoring to my store?+
Yes. You set your hidden-VIC spend threshold, your latent-value benchmarks, and your email sign-off in Settings, and the store re-scores. Over time we can also calibrate against which of your flagged clients actually converted.
Privacy & security
What we hold, which is almost nothing.
Where is my customer data stored?+
Nowhere on our side. Halia is zero-retention: your customers are read in real time, scored in memory, and discarded within minutes. We never write your customer data to a database. There is no standing copy of your customer base with us to leak or lose. See our
security overview.
So what do you store?+
Only your store URL, an encrypted read-only API key, your settings, a one-way hash of your access link, and a contact email you give us. None of that is customer personal data, and the secret is encrypted at rest.
Is Halia GDPR compliant?+
Yes, by design. For your customer data you are the controller and Halia is your processor. Because no customer data lives with us, data-subject access and erasure requests are satisfied on our side automatically. We can provide a data processing agreement on request.
Can Halia change anything in my store?+
No. Access is read-only. Halia can read orders and customers to score them; it cannot edit, delete, refund, or place anything. Revoke the key and access ends in the same moment.
Do you share my data with other brands or my competitors?+
Never. Halia analyses only your data, on your behalf, and never shares it with anyone, including other Halia customers. There is no shared graph or pooled database of customers across brands. When we say a client "may be spending more with your competitors", that is an inference Halia draws from the wealth signals in your own data. Halia has no access to any competitor's customers or sales, and it would never expose yours to anyone else.
Does Halia learn from my customers' data, or reuse it for other clients?+
No. Your customer data is scored in memory and discarded within minutes. We do not train models on it, we do not add it to our reference datasets, and we never reuse one client's data to score another. Every signal and reference list Halia uses is built entirely from our own research and expertise, drawn from public, non-personal facts such as addresses, domains, and card ranges. Your customers never become anyone else's reference data.
Where is Halia hosted, and how is it secured?+
Halia runs on Render, which is SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certified, independently penetration-tested each year, and offers a GDPR Data Processing Agreement. Your customers are scored in memory and never written to our database, so there is no customer database on our side to breach; the only thing we persist is your own encrypted, read-only store credential. Render's certifications cover the infrastructure beneath us, not Halia itself; our own controls and subprocessor list are available to your security team on request.
How is the credential you store protected?+
Your read-only store key is encrypted at rest (Fernet / AES). Crucially, the key that decrypts it is held separately from the database, so a stolen database dump alone can never unlock it. Access is least-privilege and read-only by default (write is only requested on stores where you enable customer tagging in Shopify), and we can rotate or revoke a credential immediately.
How do you protect against attacks and abuse?+
Sign-in and scoring endpoints are rate-limited to blunt brute-force and hammering; all traffic runs over TLS; our dependencies are monitored for known vulnerabilities; internal accounts use multi-factor authentication; and customer data is never written to our logs. No system is impenetrable, but the architecture keeps the blast radius of any breach to a single encrypted, read-only credential, because there is no store of your customers to reach. We welcome good-faith security reports.
Integrations
Your stack, connected.
Which platforms does Halia work with?+
Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce as data sources; Klaviyo, Mailchimp and HubSpot as destinations, plus Slack for real-time VIC alerts. The architecture is source-and-sink agnostic, so further platforms can be added. See the
documentation for step-by-step setup.
What does Halia push to my marketing tool?+
Grades and scores as profile properties or merge fields, plus tags and segments such as "Halia A*" or "Halia Hidden VIC" that you can segment on or use to trigger a flow or Customer Journey. A hidden VIC can start an automation the moment it is found.
Will connecting Halia change my subscribers' consent?+
No. New contacts pushed to Mailchimp are added as transactional, never subscribed, so Halia never opts anyone into marketing without consent. It enriches and tags your existing contacts.
